Here you’ll find all posts of family photo sessions that were published on this blog since 2011.

Since then, my photography has evolved to a more documentary type of work and some posts may not be true to how I photograph nowadays.

To check out my current work, please visit the portfolio and latest blog posts.

If you’d like to have your family photographed with a documentary approach I would love to meet and photograph you.

A fun morning | Family photo session

In this post I present to you a sports fan family.  Basketball is, for sure, their favourite sport and so one the main goals of this session was to capture that in the photographs. The photo session took place in Aveiro, early in the morning in one of the most pleasant spots of the city to go with kids do somes sports or to just go out for a cup of coffee

We began the photo session by doing some fun family pictures. The kids were really into it and had so much fun that the final images reflect their energy very well. When that was done and as we got closer to the end, it was time to relax and play. The basketball court that was right there was the perfect scenario to drible the ball. However, getting the ball that high into the basket turned out to be much more difficult than expected.

This is a kind of session that families are enjoying more often (and so am I). To implement a fun activity into the session such as playing ball, a water ballon fight or even cooking (if it takes place at home), makes the session more fun for everyone, and the images we get from that are always special.

From the other side of the world to Portugal | Family photo session

I haven’t been able to update the blog as often as I wished in the past few months. The end of 2016 has gone by real fast, 2017 is already in full force and I have been absent around here. I promise I’ll try to blog more often (once a month hopefully) over the next year. Truth be told, this is a good sign. I photographed a lot of families over the last months, and this year is bringing more work and some new projects that I’m really excited about.

But today is a special day, and that is why I really wanted to share this with you. Today is my birthday (I’m not going to tell how old I am because I actually stopped counting at 29) and so it happens that the story behind the session that I’m sharing today began exactly one year ago. One year ago today I received a very unexpected email from this family. They are Australian and were coming to Portugal for a family vacation in September, and wanted me to photograph them while they were here (!!)

Wow! To realize that my work is somehow reaching a family all the way from the other side of the world amazes me still! And to get that email on my birthday added a very special taste to that feeling, I must say.

So, September arrived and the session was scheduled and confirmed. I then traveled to Porto to meet and photograph these two sweet brothers, Josh and Luke, and their very nice mom and dad. The session took place in Ribeira do Porto, which I actually didn’t know that well and wow! I loved the colours, the river, the narrow streets… It was the perfect scenario for this family session.

On that day, unluckily, Josh was feeling a bit under the weather. But he behaved like a champion and ended up having fun with his little brother, and even enjoyed a delicious ice cream afterwords.

It was an enormous pleasure to meet and photograph this family that came from all the way from austrália to visit our country. Hopefully they’ll come back one day and I get a chance to photograph them again.

Beach vacation in Portugal | Family photo session

While on their Summer vacation at the beaches of Barra and Costa Nova, this family decided to do a photo session to document those happy relaxing days. It took place on a weird afternoon, because on that hot day flames were consuming forests and threatening cities all over the country and the sky presented the weirdest color, quite different than the usual beautiful blue sky.

However, this family’s happiness overcame the sadness of those days and these images, filled with color, reflect the joy of a fun family vacation.

How he’s grown | Family photo session

Already back at work, today I show you this family session that I loved to photograph. It was more than a year ago that I photographed them for the first time, at their home, when Zé Pedro was only a few months old. Now, I met them once again with a quite different Zé Pedro, grown up, with a beautiful smile, such curious eyes and the most fun curly hair. It was very fun session, with lots of laughter.
